I Don't have What it Takes

I used to tell God this.

All the time.

I would find some comfort in scripture as I heard so many people say the same thing. I remember the story of Gideon resonating with me as the angel tells him "Mighty warrior...Go in the strength you have." Gideon then replies with a rant about how he is the wussiest of the wussiest clan. The words of God seem to be in such disconnect to the reality he sees within himself. When the assessed strength require for any given task is staggeringly more than the strength you see within yourself you can easily become discouraged and overwhelmed. When the strength needed is well within your capacity you can become dangerously susceptible to pride. It can be very challenging to focus not on yourself but stay focused on the mission.

With Gideon, I observed that as he moved forward God spoke to him and brought clarity. God also brought people. More than enough apparently. He actually got the job done with far fewer than Gideon would expect.

Not too long ago I was convicted about my stewardship of the people God had brought into my life. I confessed and committed to not bury these precious treasures, hoping to keep them safe, but to invest them in the kingdom. It was in the middle of this season that I once again aired my concern, "I don't have what it takes!"

His response: Faces.

For every weakness I could think of, he had a person with a gift.
When I played my last ace, "But they need someone to lead them! People with these type of gifts need a very gifted leader!"

I was floored and humbled by his response.

"Follow me."

I'm so proud of you, Josh! I can remember sitting across from you and Tanya many times at restaurants discussing dreams and visions and intimidating realities . . . God has so blessed you, and you are an extraordinary dude!
