Our culture tends to elevate performance gifts. Even in the church, performance gifts are elevated above others. I think this may be one of the reasons that Paul often addresses the value of every part of the body.
Another wacky thing we do is to elevate the gifted person. By the very nature of a gift we ought to be elevating and making much of the one who gave the gift. When our focus is on the recipient, rather than the giver, we miss the point of the gift.
Jesus is the point. He always is.
