We have recently added two new kids things to our home. Both are a huge hit with Abby, our daughter, and us.
First, it was time to upgrade the kids Bible we were using with Abby. She loved it and we had read through it cover to cover a number of times. But, we began noticing that she was growing beyond the basic concepts in the toddler version. So, we began looking for the next stage, a kids Bible that works well for the 3-5 range. I had recently read a blog post by a local pastor about "The Jesus Storybook Bible". The stories are paraphrased quite well for young children and are illustrated with very colorful and interesting art. Our favorite part of this version is how they carry the Jesus story from beginning to end throughout the entire Bible. When you read the stories from the Old Testament, they very carefully bring to the surface the Jesus themes. We LOVE this version and highly recommend it for young children.
Second, our friend @EmilieMccormack turned us on to a group called "The Rizers", (slang for memorizers). This is a local Seattle band out of Mars Hill Church in Ballard. Every song on the project is straight from scripture. We have often talked about how disappointing so much of the Christian music for children is. Too often the songs are poorly arranged and are quite cheesy. The Rizers do an incredible job of giving kids music a distinctly Seattle sound and making scripture memory a focal point of the music.
Parents, you will love these two resources and I hope you consider purchasing them to inspire and teach your children.
