Presentation Experiments

I think in pictures, music and stories.  When I mull something over I usually use pictures to communicate my thoughts.  I love a good metaphor or simile.  Often when I am putting together my message for Sunday morning I see images or hear songs which correlate to the thoughts in my head.  I decided a couple weeks ago to explore the idea of using these in the context of my Sunday morning talk.  To give people a look into what I see when I think.

It has been fun.

One of the first things I discovered is the need to operate the presentation myself.  Some slides require many picture to tell the story I see.  In order to be able to move through them quick enough I have to control it myself.  I initially thought this would be cumbersome and distracting but it has actually proven to be pretty natural and has helped me maintain a flow and direction in my presentation.  In addition to image thinking I also have serious ADD and can get bombarded with new thoughts or stories on the fly.  This new approach has helped me stay focus on the direction I have already mapped out.  If I felt I was being led to say something "off the map" I would scrap the presentation and go with God every time.  My hope is that this will make me a better preacher will in turn aid in a more clear presentation of the truth.

Do you supplement your speaking?  If so with what and who operates the presentation?
