Flowing Lake Triathlon

A group of us did the Flowing Lake Triathlon this morning.  It is a cool event.  Pretty short course, but very hilly.  The bike route is fourteen miles of roller coaster hills with the final two or three miles almost all uphill.  That end is brutal!!  The run section is short, two miles, but also very hilly.  The lake temp was about 69 and the air a little chilly, but it was a beautifully clear day.  I swam better and biked okay, but the run kills me every time.  I shaved five minutes off my time from last year, so that is good.  It was fun to hear Tanya cheering when I came through the transitions and finally at the finish line.

About half way through the swim I starting feeling really tired and it dawned on me that I hadn't taken in any real fuel at all.  One piece of wheat bread and about 24oz. of water.  So when I started out on the bike I forced down a Gu Pack and that kicked in after a few minutes and felt great.  I had a couple gel blocks in my jersey that I popped in the last section of the ride to get a little more juice for the run.  For some reason I started getting sick to my stomach toward the end of the ride and that stuck with me until after the finish and I choked down a plain bagel.

Over all it was a lot of fun, although I will say that when I crossed the finish line I didn't ever want to do a tri again. But now I am already thinking about the next one.
