It Go Time

Well, spring is coming soon and with spring comes races. The tri season is kicking in soon and STP will be here before you know it. I have never done STP but I am excited to hit it this year. The one day training schedule started a couple weeks ago so I am a bit behind. No, not one day of training, but riding all 204 miles in one day. I figure if your gonna do it... do it. I have a couple friends who are riding with me. Should be a great adventure.

I am kicking back into some regular training now. Regular running, cycling and swimming.

There is a cool loop in my neighborhood which includes some trail running as well as pavement. It is exactly 5k from driveway and back. I ran that yesterday and it felt pretty good. I was slow, but it felt good.

Ya know, you ought to pick a goal this year. Do your first triathlon. Run in a 5k. Or ride you bike in one of Cascade Bicycle Club's many events. Whatever you do, get outside and get in shape! You will never regret it.

Wow....you are a beast. STP is serious. Ian and I are running a half marathon in a few weeks. It is my first. I am with you on setting a few goals that get you outside. Good luck with the chafage on a 200 mile bike ride!

I took the dogs (and girls) for a 20 minute walk today. Tallie pulled me most of the way. Does that count?

I was going to join a family gym, but decided to try 45 minute dog walks 3x a week for free for now. I guess 45 was a bit ambitious. haha. I'll get there eventually.

STP huh...I love the Stone Temple Pilots! Hopefully you will be singing "well, I'm half the man I used to be" after all your racing this year. Can't wait to see how skinny you're gonna look. Jump on it, jump on it!

STP in one day? Wow, you are getting ambitious, Josh. Didn't know you are so into cycling. Happy training. Spring is almost here. It will just get easier.

Maybe I'll bump into you running on those sweet bark trails here at the ridge. (Hopefully the bears have moved on since last summer). I have hundreds of miles to put in there myself before the big summer and fall 5K/10K/half marathons. No time to waste!

Jay, You are a natural stud, there is really nothing you can do about it. Jay = Stud. Period.

Lori, what an awesome way to get started! 45 minutes a few times a week will have significant impact on you. I am proud of you.

Heather, I am super proud of you guys!! You will have a ton of fun. Pete, get on your bike man, its gonna be a long day.

John, did you say bears!? I was out there yesterday with Abby on my back just walking the trails and I must say it did cross my mind. It is so beautiful out there. When do you usually head out?

Getting back into reasonable shape has been so huge in my life. One year ago I was 20lbs more than I am today. I am working for another 15lbs this summer.

Hopefully that will make Baker and Ranier a little easier with 50lbs on my back this summer.

You guys are all awesome!!

what, you already started training?!?!? Suddenly I feel like Fatty Magoo over here sitting on my can breaking a sweat once a week (and only when I've eaten something spicy). I better get it in gear.

I'm pretty sure the bears moved on last fall. There was a sow and her cub out there last summer. Multiple confirmed sightings by multiple people on the trails between Redmond Ridge and the new Redmond Ridge East construction area.

I saw the bear obscured once in some bushes as I ran by behind the Parkside neighborhood - a big black shape rustling around in the bushes. And I would often see fresh bear scat on the trail in the morning (I'm usually on the trails around 8-9 am). But I haven't seen any eivdence of a bear in at least six months, so no need to worry, whether you are out there alone or with Abby. Besides, these are just harmless black bears ;-)
