Well, I was the speaking in the chapel sessions at Northwest University yesterday. I tell you it was interesting to be back there. I go there quite often and have wondered what I would say if given the opportunity.
Well they did make it easier on me by assigning a passage. The book study for this fall semester is on First and Second Timothy. I was given 2 Timothy 3. Yes the entire chapter.
Typically I prefer a much smaller chunk for a 25 minute talk because there is so much meat in there and I desire treat scripture appropriately. With the time frame and the scope of the passage my approach was to deal with the overarching theme rather than focus on one particular aspect.
The basic overview of chapter three goes something like this:
"Tim, in times to come there will be messed up, self-serving people IN the church. But I have given you a different example, an example of what it looks like to follow Jesus whole heartedly. This is why scripture is so important, it points us to Jesus who has the power to transform every life and to equip each of us to do the work God has given us to do!"
The two chapel hours have such a different culture. the first being very interactive and engaged. The second being much more reserved and contemplative. Both were fun, but it definitely threw me for a loop as I got rolling in the second.
It was a great opportunity and hope it comes around again.

You did a great job. Usually Northwest saves the "better speakers" for Friday's, but they threw us a curve ball when you tore it up on a Monday.
Thanks Nick. It was a ton of fun and I loved coming back to NU. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
BTW - nick what is your blog address?
