New Things

Sunday, after our gathering, a few of us went to sushi in Redmond. The closest I have ever been to sushi is the grocery store California roll with smoked salmon in it.

Well, this was the real deal!

Aaron, who you can see to my right in the photo is HUGE sushi fan, so he coached me through the experience. We started out mellow and ramped it right on up to the "Raw and Weird" category. I actually enjoyed it and look forward to going again.

I will tell you though, I am not a huge fan of the raw salmon or tuna slab on rice. The texture just kills me. The flavor is fine, but the soft, mushy texture... hang on, I am gagging.

Anyway, my brother-in-law, Brent, came with us. Brent is from a straight up meat and potatoes household. So this was an even bigger leap for him. I was very proud when he asked, "What do I have to try?". He went with a full on Go Big or Go Home mentality.

It was a ton of fun. You can tell by my little stack of plates that I had my fill. It was a great experience.

Next time you visit LA we will have to visit Nozawa. if you google him, you may find him listed as the Sushi Nazi. He serves authentic style sushi only, and he serves what he thinks you want, no ordering. Many people have been booted from his restaurant for asking for California rolls, including movie stars and comon folk alike.

Bring it on! That sounds like a very cool experience.

Josh, please don't take me out to Sushi on Easter Sunday. I have HUGE texture issues....
Mushy food+Lorella=better have a video camera to get the vomiting on film so we can earn $10,000.

BTW I was signing these as "Lori" but then another Lori commented too, so it's back to Lorella I guess...
