Yesterday I went downtown to meet a friend of mine for some lunch. Chris spends his days working out of the loft at Temple Billiards. Which, by the way, is a very cool spot. I had no idea that Pearl Jam owned the place, but for some reason I feel pretty neat about having been there.
Chris recently started a new church in the pioneer square area called Thryve. It was good to spend some time with him. Chris is very passionate and driven to fulfill God's mission. It was great to talk about why we do what we do. Temple is also a cool place to grab some lunch and play a game of pool.
I honestly had to spend some time reflecting on the drive home. Why do I do what I do? Am I planting a church to build a church or to win lost souls for Jesus. Am I starting a church to promote myself or to promote the grace of Christ and his cross. Hard questions if you are truly honest with yourself. It is so easy to get caught up in the work of building a church and to loose sight of the true goal. I am thankful for those quality relationships. It is cool to watch as iron sharpened iron.
I am so thankful for our team. A group of people who are willing to do whatever it takes to see people come to know Jesus.
