Day Three - Passing Through

On our way out of town yesterday, we stopped in a local candy shop for a rediculous helping of the good ol' salt water taffy. Simply out of curiousity I asked the guy at the register if he had ever seen someone on one of the POC scooter get hit by a car. (the thing is, after a stupid little 10' drive test, they cut you loose on the streets with one of those things!) He said, "Oh yeah!" with the tone that suggests it happens all the time. he explained that this past summer there was one accident that was particularly bad. The woman on the scooter did not survive the colission with a truck.

He then went into a thoughtful mode and started to tell me about his three week motor home vacation he had recently returned from. He said that around almost all major cities he saw fatality accidents. He was just behind the van which was crushed by a giant bolder on I-90 and others.

Then he opened the door..."I guess you never know which day will be your last."

I followed with, "So what are you doing to make today matter?"

We had a short conversation about loved ones and expressing appreciation. I threw in a comment about God. We said our good-byes, I took my taffy and walked out the door.

Who knows what he will do with those short thoughts. I pray that they have been lodged in his mind, even just for a day.

I sit here in Tripple J cafe thinking to myself, "Self, what are you going to do to make today matter?"

What are you going to do to make today matter?
