I met my mentor for lunch today. These are always my favorite meetings. As a mentor should be, he is very personal, inspiring, wise and practical.
We cover a wide range of topics from family and fatherhood to church leadership to theology to relationships. You get the idea, we talk about a ton of different things.
One of the things I love about our conversations is that in the midst of a long, somewhat random discussion, something always emerges in my mind as a dominant theme and so relevant and powerful for exactly where I am at.
I can look back over the five or so years that we have been meeting and see how our meetings have fallen at crucial times in my life.
This week I have had some interesting meetings and have been in need of the refreshing conversation that we always have. As a matter of fact I was in a meeting on Tuesday evening and it just happened that he was across the street having dinner and was able to pop in and give some very timely advice in what could be a tough situation. But, thanks to the wise counsel I feel very confident with what could have been difficult.
Do you have someone in your life like this? I tell you what, you need them.
Sometimes we get so weighed down with the big stuff that we miss the beauty of the simple things.
I am writing this post from the Snoqualmie Ridge Zoka, the finest coffee roaster in the Northwest. And in my humble opinion (remember, I drink a lot of coffee!) the best vanilla latte I have had.
Simple, yet BEAUTIFUL!
