Matt and I were talking about my trip to see Jon defend his thesis.
I wonder how many people coming into our churches experience the same feelings that I felt as I listened to Jon's presentation on genetics.
Because the event was academic, Jon had no reason to speak in a language that I and his family could understand. So he used vocabulary and spoke insider language throughout his entire presentation. I smiled when the entire room would burst out in laughter. Obviously whatever was said was funny, I just didn't get it. I didn't understand some of the key words, I have no history in genetics beyond my high school Biology class which was 20 years ago.
How often do people have this same experience in our churches. I went to support Jon, but I would not make it a regular habit. Could the same be said of the friend you brought to church last week?
