Less for More

Finishing up a North Point book called "7 Practices of Effective Ministry". I started it a while ago and set it down during the holidays and now finishing it off this week.

I just read the section, "Teach Less for More". It really reasonated with me. As a communicator I work hard to be relevant, practical, power, direct, and enagaging. The main idea behind this section is to Say only what you need to say to the people who need to hear it. One of the distinct characteristics of my communiction style has been what might be called an "ad-lib"flair or off the cuff comments or stories. Many of which are funny and effective, but some which are basically pointless and distracting, both the listener and to me. So I am working on honing my skills as a speaker, and yes, as a preacher. I desire to be effective in clearly communicating the centrality, neccessity and power of the cross and the grace of Jesus.

Here are some bullets from this section that caught my mind as I read through it:

Four Steps to teach less for more:
  1. Decide what you are going to say.
  2. Decide to say one thing at a time.
  3. Decide How you are going to say it.
  4. Say it Over and Over again.

Just a few thoughts that were helpful to me.

I would encourage you to pick up the book.
