Snow Day

So week we have set record lows and the snow came and ice came. So I decided to head over to my standard spot, Sorrentos, for some coffee and to get some work done. Well, no one was there. They were not open and it was even 8am! That's late for a coffee. So I decide to head over to the brand new Starbucks ( BTW - when I looked up the address for the new store I realized there are 13 Starbucks in Redmond. In four locations there are two Starbucks in the same parking lot. And one location where they are immediately across the street from each other. Just some interesting tidbits.) right down the street. Get the coffee, get settled in, crank up the laptop and NO WIFI! They tell me it takes something like 60 days after the store open to get it set up. Which is absolutely ridiculous.

I checked my email with my Treo 650, then reworked my message for Sunday morning.

Once those tasks were done I sat there looking out the window wondering, "What do people do without WiFi?"

It was snowing and I remember hearing a lot of people say, "I just want to curl up with a good book." So feeling more obligation than desire, I pulled out a book my friend Craig had recently given me, "7 Practices of Effective Ministry" by the team at North Point Church.

Long story short, I plowed through more than half of the book in that one sitting. And yes, reading a book on a snowy day just felt good. Can't tell you why, and I don't like it that it did, but it did.

That being said, if you are a leader in a church go buy the book today. It is well written and will speak to most of you young leaders out there who have been asking the question for years, "Is more really better?"

Find yourself a Treo 700 and then you wont have to find Wifi. I love mine and the DSL 'like' download speeds are a nice plus for the laptop when tethered via bluetooth.
