Well, it is the first Monday post Thanksgiving. I finished my last peice of pumpkin pie last night. My absolute favorite.
This morning I was back in NU chapel with Steve. Dan Neary was speaking and man, what a great job. He spoke this morning from Ephesians chapter 5, the topic: Submission. Got my wheels turning quite a bit. Take a few minutes and listen to what Dan had to say this morning.
This is something that has been rolling around in mind lately. I believe that God is trying to get a message accross to me. Through four main sources, Wes Davis, Erwin McManus, Dan Neary and The Holy Spirit. I think that McManus summed it up so well when he said, we think of spiritual maturity as an accumulation of knowledge, but in actuality, spiritual maturity is displayed through service. Jesus modeled it. He praised his disciples for it. He calls us to it in the scripture.
It was so good to talk with Wes a couple weeks ago and to be reminded of why I do what I do. You should listen to his talk about miniature Jesus, not only funny, spot on and convicting! I think that too often church planters are glorified as "cutting edge" or "full of faith". Does it take faith - HOLY SMOKES, YES IT DOES! Do we all hope to do something fresh and new - HOLY SMOKES YES! But down deep in the core of who we are, it is not our own glory or the thought of putting our name to some new approach that drives us, but the desire to truly follow Jesus and see him change the face of culture as he changes the very hearts of the people in our culture. There is a grass roots movement to truly and sincerely pursue Jesus. I so easily fall into the trap of viewing church as a place or event. Somewhere we go or something we do.
People. Its all about people discovering who Jesus is and what it means to follow him. People like us.
