Looking Back

I got up pretty early this morning while it was still dark. I would love to say it was to follow in the footsteps of Jesus to go and pray, but to be honest it was to go play golf. I pulled into Willows Run Golf Course at about 7:15 am. I signed in and paid. Ipaid because my friend Zach who works there was nowhere to be seen. I was put with a group, a father-son pair and their long time friend. The friend and I were both walking so we spent most of the morning talking. He asked a lot of questions about starting a church and what Life at the Ridge was all about. It was a great morning, despite the golf.

One of his comments caught my brain. He mentioned that he and father guy had been much wilder in their youth and that it was not such a good thing. He said it with the tone of half-confession (he also kept refering to me as the reverand) and half regret. I invited him to check out the website and come see us at the church when we get things rolling. I told him to call me if he needs a golf partner some day.

I left there hoping to see him again soon to continue our conversation. He said he plays every Tuesday morning. I also left thanking God for his grace, which today he again extends to me. I think of all the things I have to regret knowing that Jesus has forgiven each and every one of them.

"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound."

I hope that some day Ron will sing that with me.
